Search engine optimization for alternative medicine sites

If your alternative medicine business has a website, then in addition to legal review of claims, you should consider search engine optimization.

HTML Title
This is the site's title, the first 40-60 characters that will pop up on a search. Make it keyword-rich; synonyms helpful. Include company name. Make it unique, capitalize first letters. • Try putting the keywords into a search and seeing how many sites come up and what other keyword competitors use. You want keywords that are highly popular (searched a lot), yet relevant to your business and where there are few competitors so that your search becomes unique.

Check which directors are listing competitors by doing an search for the competitors on line.

Personalize the site by adding thumbnail photos of building and personnel; also, images of products. Increase search engine capacity by including keyword-rich ALT captions.

Google Indexing
In Google, type to find # of your site pages that Google has indexed (including landing page).
Link exchange

If affiliated with a university or recipient of grants or have appropriate funders, ask them to link to you on their sites.

Get testimonials from existing customers and include on website in a testimonial page. Testimonials should be keyword-rich.

Press Releases
Include full-text press releases on News page. More pages and more text will yield more search rankings. Make press releases keyword-rich.

Bloggers in the industry
Send info to relevant bloggers (i.e, pharmaceutical, medical, biotechnology, entrepreneurial, alternative medicine, therapeutic, holistic health, counseling, mental health, energy medicine, energy psychology) and ask them to link to you with a mention of your products. Also, create a Links page and link to them, so you are asking for reciprocal links.

Analyze Competition's SEO
Analyze SEO strategy of your competition. View the source code on their sites and look at their keywords and meta-tags. Also review their statistics at and find out who links to them, then ask these sites for links to you.

Keyword-rich text
Text on every page should include the company name. Text should be keyword-rich. Meta tags should be on every page. Can use rich bulleted points where helpful.

Links within site
Link internally within the site. Pop-ups do not always help, as people can land on them but not find their way back to the site. Related content should link as that increases page authority.

Spider review
Review the site through the eyes of a spider emulator, such as, to see what the search engines pick up.
