That’s spear phishing, not fishing; also known as targeted spam.

Phishers can spoof an internal email address and wreak havoc by masking as a legitimate company source.
Damage can include soliciting sensitive information such as employee and bank passwords. Intellectual property, including trade secrets, are also potential targets.
I’m reminded of a scene in the last Batman film where the detective asks Batman how he’ll handle the growing escalation: ‘you wear Kevlar, they wear Kevlar.’ Batman replies: “I’m working on it.” The more sophisticated our defense systems, the more actively others try to penetrate the screens. Technology meets technology, and we move on to the next round. Fraud by any other name.
There’s even an Anti-Phishing Working Group eCrime Researchers Summit.
Perhaps the phrase from “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” should be, “So long, and thanks for all the phish!
