Kunati Inc. Book Publishers will issue a commemorative edition of Passport to the Cosmos by John E. Mack, MD.

John is a colleague and friend who has passed to the Other Side. His brilliant book, Passport to the Cosmos: Human Transformation
and Alien Encounters
follows the highly successful Abduction: Human Encounters with Aliens (1994).

Prior to that, he wrote a number of books on psychiatric and spiritual issues, and won a Pulitzer Prize for a biography of T.E. Lawrence.

What, aliens, again? Don’t we have enough blood-letting on Earth, without having to trip the light fantastic on inter-galactic intrigue?

It has been suggested that I not write about “little green men” on my blog, certainly not in conjunction with more esteemed subjects such as world order, law, and medicine; but in defense (for what could be more important than cosmic harmony), I also have to say that misunderstanding springs from a triple misnomer:

First, they are not necessarily little (unless you consider nanoscale transportation–a la Isaac Asimov’s prophetic Fantastic Voyage, which is moving from science fiction to technological reality, “little”). At any rate, the little green men image is a bit dated now, by about a half-century.

Second, I do not believe they are green — blue would be a more likely hue, if at all, but this is all from the human perspective, anyway, which may or may not be the center of the cosmos (read John’s Passport to find out why).

Third, my own close encounters have been with the females — again if gender is a universal constant and not a human superimposition, as so much else is.

At any rate, read the book and open your mind. Follow a masterful clinician through the labyrinth of compassion, empathy, and understanding that marks a psychiatrist’s journey, and traverse the realms of consciousness in which the human mind can dwell. There is a fantastic voyage of imagination in those pages, and something grander than speculation-based derision. Leap from the probable to the possible, and then beyond.

And then celebrate and honor a brave man and his life’s work.
